Chaski Magazine continues its journey with a new editorial team News, Noticia
Chaski Magazine is moving forward with the preparation of its 2026 edition under the leadership of an editorial team that will select, review, and publish articles related to International Museum Day 2026: “Museums unifying a divided world”.
Following the close of the call for papers for the 2026 edition of Chaski Magazine, published by the ICOM Regional Alliance for Latin America and the Caribbean (ICOM LAC), editorial work continues to shape a new issue dedicated to the most relevant reflections and experiences in the region’s museological field, maintaining its spirit of ongoing renewal and editorial innovation.
The call sparked broad interest among museum professionals, researchers, and workers across Latin America and the Caribbean, who responded to the invitation to reflect on the role of museums in addressing today’s social, cultural, political, and environmental challenges. Under the theme “Museums building bridges in a divided world,” the submitted proposals address topics related to community engagement, education, memory, digital transformation, decolonial narratives, and sustainability.
To lead this edition, the magazine features a new Editorial Committee composed of renowned specialists from various countries in the region, whose diverse expertise will build upon the editorial consolidation work undertaken in previous editions.
Leonardo Mellado González (Chile) will lead this stage as Editorial Director of Chaski Magazine. A historian, museologist, researcher, and member of ICOM Chile, Mellado has built an outstanding career in Latin American museology, driving research on heritage education, historical memory, and social museology.
From Argentina, Olga Nazor brings her extensive background in contemporary museology, academic training, and institutional management, built over decades of work with universities, professional associations, and heritage organizations.
Representing Venezuela, Armando Gagliardi Radomile contributes a distinguished trajectory in art history, museology, and the leadership of major national museum institutions, alongside his current role as President of ICOM Venezuela.
From Brazil, Professor Manuelina Maria Duarte Cândido, an international reference in social museology and anthropology, contributes her academic and professional expertise developed across universities, museums, and cultural institutions in Latin America and Europe.
The committee also includes Carlos Arturo Soto-Lombana (Colombia), a researcher and university professor recognized for his studies on museums, science centers, and learning, as well as his contribution to strengthening higher education in Colombia.
Argentina’s representation is completed by Silvana M. Lovay, a researcher specializing in education, museology, and decoloniality, whose work has strengthened academic cooperation networks and international projects related to museums and professional training.
Finally, from Venezuela, Nathiam Gabriela Vega Rodríguez brings her expertise in collection management, exhibition production, and editorial project development, in addition to her current roles as Secretary of ICOM LAC and Special Projects Coordinator for the National Museums Foundation.
The editorial team is supported by Amelia Rodríguez (Costa Rica) as Editorial Assistant. An art historian and industrial design engineer, Rodríguez has collaborated with Chaski Magazine since 2022, assisting in the development of the publication.
With this multidisciplinary team, Chaski Magazine reaffirms its position as a meeting point for voices across Latin America and the Caribbean, promoting social outreach, knowledge exchange, critical thinking, and the strengthening of professional networks in the museum sector.
The 2026 edition will continue to offer a pluralistic perspective on the role of museums as spaces for dialogue, collective construction, and social transformation, in alignment with the contemporary challenges facing cultural heritage in Latin America and the Caribbean.
ICOM LAC thanks everyone who participated in the call for papers and invites the community to continue supporting this editorial project.
