ICOM LAC 2026 Call for Applications: New Members for Working Groups (Tables and Committees) Call, Convocatorias, News, Noticia
The Executive Board of the Regional Alliance of the International Council of Museums for Latin America and the Caribbean (ICOM LAC), with the aim of strengthening and consolidating its working processes, is launching this call for applications addressed to museum professionals and museology practitioners interested in joining the Alliance’s various Working Groups, organised into Tables and Committees.
This call seeks to broaden regional participation across the different areas of action of ICOM LAC, promoting diverse and balanced representation that reflects the cultural, social and linguistic plurality of our region.
To learn more about our roadmap, we invite you to consult the publication Re-connections
This call aims to integrate these working spaces for a two-year period, inviting individuals from across the region to contribute their experience and expertise within the following Working Groups:
Governance Table
In response to the environmental, social and economic challenges facing Latin America and the Caribbean, this table proposes to address sustainability from a holistic perspective encompassing social (equity, social justice, inclusion), economic (sustainable economy and responsible consumption) and environmental (biodiversity protection) dimensions.
The group will work on identifying and promoting actions that foster spaces for reflection and critical thinking within museums, as well as local and regional awareness-raising spaces regarding the environmental crisis and the preservation actions that concern society as a whole.
It will also promote the development of resources and collaborative networks—such as the compilation of regulatory frameworks, mapping of key stakeholders, and dialogue on health and traditional knowledge—that contribute to consolidating sustainable practices rooted in local contexts.
Sustainability Table
Regional Integration Table
Recognising the diversity and complexity of Latin America and the Caribbean, this table builds on the learnings of the Re-connections process to deepen regional integration as a strategic priority: rebuilding what connects us.
Rebuilding, because we believe that new conversations and agreements are needed to guide us towards what defines and connects the LAC museum region in the 21st century. We understand that each territory has its own particularities; it is a diverse, complex and constantly evolving region.
Through museum professionals, museological development and museum practice, we will explore what unites us and enables us, through multivocality, to make our voices visible.
Community Participation Table
Building on the Re-connections process and within the framework of SAREC 2026–2027, this table aims to strengthen regional exchange and the visibility of practices related to community museums.
Spaces for exchange will be promoted to share experiences rooted in local territories, recognising the value of participatory methodologies and local knowledge in museum-making. A series of webinars focused on best practices presented by their practitioners is proposed.
Its lines of action include the development of both virtual and in-person exchange spaces, as well as the production of materials that gather lessons learned, methodologies and experiences, in order to strengthen collaborative and context-based processes in the region.
Museological Training with an Ethical Approach Table
In response to the need to strengthen capacities in the sector, this table focuses on the development, implementation and evaluation of a continuous training programme for museum professionals in Latin America and the Caribbean.
The approach will be based on identifying real regional needs, incorporating ethical principles and aligning with contemporary museological trends.
The aim is to promote accessible, relevant and sustained learning spaces that contribute to strengthening professional practice and the commitment of museums to their social and cultural contexts.
Institutional Affairs Committee
This committee aims to strengthen coordination between ICOM LAC and the various bodies within ICOM, as well as to support National Committees in their processes and challenges.
It seeks to channel enquiries, identify regional priorities and contribute to the development of recommendations and resolutions that reflect the needs of the Latin American and Caribbean context.
It also aims to promote greater strategic participation, the development of leadership tools and the consolidation of strong institutional management representative of the region.
